The oddity here is many of those states are poor yet they turn out to vote for the wealth protectors…

I'm in a neutral coastal part of Florida but then the odds of being hit by a hurricane or a rocket's explosion/fallout are elevated here so there's that. It's relaxing as long as you can ignore the drivel coming out of DickSanctus's mouth

A lot of overlap there. And the bad part about the life expectancy part is the lag time and the "Red Creep" will look very much like the voting red/blue map if the current healthcare, health denial, and lack of expanding Medicaid (etc) trend continue!

To some extent that reflects our #TraumaEpidemic : redounding the historic Southern white (though not exclusively)--and its western and northern (see MI) 'diaspora'--experiences 'onto' and alongside the BIPOC and immigrant experiences. A path forward and out of this exists.

Perhaps the higher poverty and higher proportions of BIPOC have a greater effect. It can be stressful being Black in the South, or Native in Alaska. (I speak as a Black person in the South, although I grew up on the East Coast)..

Don't assume that income level is related to voting patterns.

Life expectancy and its relation to poverty. That's where you're going to look for correlations in the data.

Sadly, those places in red probably represent Black, brown, and marginalized people who are killed indiscriminately, and who are affected by policies that don't protect and nourish them.

And their lack of access to healthcare, historic levels of discrimination in healthcare (not just overt, also HCPs less likely to screen, order tests, refer to specialists, etc), and States that did not expand Medicaid or have underfunded public health for decades!

The darker red areas in Montana, North and South Dakota are counties with Native American Reservations. Coincidence, I think not.
