My very good friend died yesterday at age 64, seven months shy of retirement. She never got to enjoy her much anticipated retirement because she needed the health insurance. Fuck those who want to raise the retirement age to 70 and keep health insurance tied to employment. ????????

I am sorry to hear about your friend. But I think in the minds of too many Americans, paraphrasing a friend, if health care wasn’t tied to employment those *lazy*people would be freeloaders and they work too hard to help those lazy people (lazy was the word they used in their rant)

Absolutely, F them. The priorities of capitalism are laid bear, especially in insurance and medicine where incentives are profit and the human beings are but impediments to those profits, flat out marks in a grift.

A belated sorry for your sad news! My uncle was to begin early retirement when he died of a massive heart attack just after midnight ON his 62nd birthday. He didn't enjoy a minute or a penny of retirement.
I am TOTALLY AGAINST raising the age to 70. In my mid-sixties, I speak from experience.....

It is horrible how Republicans keep trying to push back retirement age- and at the same time women over 50 have a helluva time getting hired. Makes. No. Sense.

When I read these stories I feel so fortunate to have been able to retire early (USPS), get great health insurance, SS & a pension. I feel so sorry for those who can't enjoy retirement while they are still in good health or at least be able to pay for the care they need. Not right - VOTE BLUE!

I was ready to retire at 62. Then Bush changed to 66. Took early retirement @ 64. Now they want 70? Tell employers that and see how it goes. Cause how many old people do you see working?

No one gets healthier after 60. Most people over 50 can't lift their age in weight.
Ageism is real so what exactly are people over 60 supposed to do for work? Stop trying to kill off your grandparents #GOP

your friend is a ship's mast, swaying in the wind
she is greenery on top of a mountain
she is a gentle, gurgling sound of a fresh water spring
she is the quiet essence of a red poppy field
she is in her eternal freedom
a position we would never know, until we know

I'm 35 and I'm fairly certain I'll never retire... and not by choice. At this rate, unless something changes, I figure the retirement age will be raised to like 90 and I'll die at my desk as the world's oldest IT technician/EHR administrator.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I need a diagnostic cancer screening & have no insurance. Terrified. I've been fighting for 4 years for SSDI. Paid taxes for 43 years. Married & hubs works so don't qualify for medicaid or charities. The working poor are denied care. The ACA is NOT affordable!!

The working poor are the ones who suffer the most under our current health care / insurance system. I worked in patient accounts in a medical facility. I know how grossly unfair it is.

First, I am sorry for the loss of your dear friend. I'm wishing you a peaceful heart filled with good memories of your times together. ???? Second, I agree that they should not raise the retirement age. They should not tax benefits. Remove salary cap & gov't restore funds taken from SS over years.

That's terrible. I'm so sorry. Honestly, the median retirement age in this country should be lower--like 60. And people should be eligible to get their social security/Medicare at that age.
