I love this! I have a coworker who, whenever she sees one of those contestants on “American Idol” or it’s like and can’t sing, says, “That person doesn’t have people who love them, or they would tell them they can’t sing.”

It’s easy to forget how powerful, dangerous, and subversive it is to be seen and heard.

I was just coming on here to praise this score. Easily the most brilliant “Star Wars” score outside of John Williams’ work.

I like how you’ve summed it up. I lost a lot of respect for cbouzy because of all that. I felt he whipped up a mob to answer. I agree he had every right stand his ground, but I’m concerned he jumped to bullying tactics as a response. I unfollowed his account out of disgust.

I’m not sure if there was an actual argument about porn; I didn’t come across that part. To my knowledge, the real concern I saw was for writers and reviewers of romance and erotica being able to link to their reviews and websites selling their books.

I started my Hive account weeks before the big migration started in late November. I don't plan to delete it. If anything, what I'm seeing here makes me more inclined to make Hive my primary social media. I understand why it being only app-based is a dealbreaker for others, though.

I’m perplexed why it’s troubling to anyone that we want better wording in the language. The odds of them coming across anything they don’t like within the arts and writing community is unlikely if they aren’t following the people in it, and it’s not like we’re asking to post genital pics. 🙄

Yes, I just hope romance and erotica writers will get recognized as being artistic. They are. I say that as someone who used to look down on both, but the more I became involved in a writing community here in Richmond, the more I’ve come to respect those writers for their craft and business savvy.

I took part in some of the surveys, and I hope things will continue to evolve and improve. I would hate to see Spoutible not be a place to welcome the arts community, and I think @cbouzy probably does want to see arts thrive as part of the overall conversation. Things are off to a good start here.

Not sure if people remember Belzer also played Munch on an episode of “The X-Files.”

Faced for ages, but it’s a much different question than it used to be. Self-pub used to be so frowned upon in writing communities, but now… it’s a legit part of the landscape. I’m self-publishing a book for the first time this year, and it scares the hell out of me.

Yeah, and it can get tough to maintain the querying momentum when your heart gets into that new project and the “old flame” doesn’t feel like it’s going anywhere.

I often wonder if I’d sped up my learning curve ten years sooner, would I be in a better place, in terms of success? Hard to say, especially when success is so hard to define.

But that’s an it’s #Been84WriterYears talk for another day.

It’s frustrating to see work I know is good struggle to find a home in publishing. So many people out there are doing so many great stories. But the market is shrinking, and that means it’s never been more difficult to sell your work.

You’re asking, “Did that help get readers to the end I was aiming for?” That makes it easier to know what to cut and/or add. More importantly, though, you learn how things got off track. That means with the next story, it can be easier to spot the mistake before you commit it.

I loved this book! I read it in print and also listened to the audiobook, read by Benedict Cumberbatch (he does a great job with it).
