In 2021, COVID-19 took my mom. I didn't have many photos of her when she was young a woman, so I took the photo from her 1969 citizenship documents, restored it, and then turned it in to a glass portrait.

Today was her birthday.

At 57, the best advice I have for young men is this.
Whenever possible, sit to pee and put on socks.

You may think your pets are high-maintenance but my dog just refused to go outside until I straightened the rug in front of the door.

Kiddo's easily overwhelmed, even by good things, like holiday presents. We of course buy him a few gifts to enjoy, plus we have generous family members who happily send presents along to make him smile. So Chanukah's a great holiday for him, actually.

He can open his gifts at his own pace, opening one or two per night for the duration of the holiday. He doesn't get overwhelmed by too much all at once, everyone's gifts stand out and are appreciated... it's a win-win in my books.

One of his favorite gifts every year? The gift of giving.

Kiddo's 14 now, and since he was little, one of his Chanukah presents each year is a gift of cash to be given to a cause of his choosing. This year, his heart was with wild animals facing habitat loss and potential extinction. He decided he wanted to donate somewhere to help elephants, in particular

I love the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust's mission and the work they do, so I suggested he look at that with me. They have an adopt-an-orphan program for elephants and rhinos, where you can sponsor a specific animal for a year with your donation - your choice.

Kiddo chose a 22 month old orphan elephant named Nyambeni. He read that she's a bit fragile, so he's a little worried about her. Now that he's adopted her, he'll receive updates about her wellbeing and progress throughout the year. He's looking forward to seeing her thrive.

What my boy does, he does with his whole heart, and I love that about him, so much.

Guys... I'm really proud of my kid.

Facebook video is a time suck. I'll watch scenes from shows I don't even watch like Bridgerton and Young Sheldon. 90% of the time Young Sheldon clips crack me up. Missy is funny as hell. So is MeeMaw.

Grieving is an important part of coping with loss. When my nephew died, my sister took Valium at first but stopped because it just made her numb; it stopped her from experiencing his loss and what his death meant. It was like his life was being erased because she couldn’t feel anything.

My mother died 3 years ago. She was dying for a week before she expired, had been in the hospital for 3 weeks. My sister texted me on a Friday morning saying she was gone. I had to call my dad and it was the first time I ever heard my father cry. I'd have taken it as soon as I hung up.

My dad’s in his 70s and comes into the office on a daily basis. He’s incredibly sharp and an expert in our field.

However, due to some recent comments, I’ve learned that he has no business being here, so we’ll be dragging his wizened corpse out back.

Waste pickup is on Tuesday.

Guys it's me. I'm back because me leaving has turned into the biggest disaster and I cannot handle it. The chaos has been, truly, out of this world. And I apologize, sincerely, to everyone for causing it.

Manfred Mann's Blinded by the Light is the obvious choice.
My favourite, though, is 30th Century Man by Catherine Wheel.
