I'm someone who goes into super calm mode in crisis, but after the fact, the nerves kick in. I had a hard time sleeping last night between no AC and tornado dreams, but I'm ok today. Thank you.

Thanks. Yeah we're good. After a storm everyone trickles out to the street to assess damage and talk to neighbors. Saw most of my neighbors out there and everyone seemed ok. My neighbor nextdoor with the fence down took her dog out for a walk. They were sheltered in their laundry room and were ok.

Thanks. I think we'll be ok as long as the warning isn't extended. This room is very tiny. 😮‍💨

Jury saw Perry's racist words and desire to kill protesters in his SM posts. Then he put himself in a situation to kill a protester. Jury didn't think he should be out on the streets, let alone have gun rights! TX Republicans are totally cool with this time bomb walking free.

Greg Abbott thought Perry's case was open and shut stand your ground right from the beginning. He'd made up his mind. Total disregard of the jury's findings, like the trial didn't even matter. Parole board did what Abbott wanted, and they're going to restore this murder's firearm rights. Insane! htt

Thanks. Will look through it. From the summary, yeah, I agree. I expect bad actors to cause a mess in any way they can. The election system will be attacked from every angle in TX, for sure.

If the election results "can't be determined" by the court it's a do-over. They can absolutely call for another election. If we end up with a lot of this, man... nightmare. The state is hyper focused on neutering Harris County's voting power.

If Jones's appeal isn't successful, there will have to be a whole new election, which might even be moot at that point because by then Judge Jones might be on the TX Supreme Court. All of this is way too slow. Just wait for the challenges to roll in in 2024! 😱

Yes, I'm always aware of the language we get from our Republican judges. Judge Peeples said due to the invalid votes the election was too close to determine. Fairly sure that means Jones won. I'm not sure if the judge is drawing in some legal "too close to call" rule or it's his personal feeling.

It was a process getting my grandma to stop driving. She only agreed once she was in a place where she felt sure she could get alternate transportation and lived close enough that family could take her to doc appts etc, places her retirement community bus didn't go. That's definitely a key piece.

They truly just want to stuff women back into the home. They also want us to shut up. They don't care about women's rights, agency, or quality of life at all.

You wouldn't. It makes no sense. Trump is actively against those things or won't acknowledge that they're even real. The GOP has nothing, nothing to offer but harm. You'd have to be taking long pulls from the hate/fear/misinfo teat to think anything else.

Oh wow. If they didn't say who the sample was up front that's unforgivable. You always need to read the fine print with polls and at that point you've already wasted your time.

I don't know why we're supposed to act like these polls are news. Methods are outdated, samples are crap, and as far as I know, nobody has revamped anything. Like a horribly blurry Polaroid. I feel like polls are just a media thumb on the scale for the sake of the horserace.

Any big structural changes is so tough to achieve. I think we might get more ranked choice at the state level, slowly. At the national level it would be a mixed bag of those wanting it and those balking. For sure, traditional power structures do NOT like to be rebalanced.

Dems want kids educated well enough to understand arguments like that. They also believe I own my body and I'm not the state's or some man's property. Dem pols run a spectrum and are by no means perfect, but they're not literal enemies of me+kids' lives and well-being. It's fair to have some gripes.

Totally. Republican politicians absolutely do not care. But the even Republican parents get pissed when the gov't short changes their kids. They just need to vote like they're pissed. I can tell you, parents of every political stripe in my district are upset, and they should be.

It's ridiculous! Shool funding package fell apart because Abbott said he wouldn't accept anything that didn't include school vouchers. Legislators didn't approve vouchers. Texans don't want vouchers! 😡 Abbott is holding school funding hostage till he can get legislators elected who will give in.

Polling is so broken. There's no point in publishing most polls unless you're trying to put your thumb on the scale, which the NYT loves to do.

This is exactly why I came here from Post vs anywhere else, and definitely not Bluesky. Dorsey told folks to leave Bluesky because it's becoming too much like twitter. He said folks should go to X because Musk has a "free speech" mission. 🥴

Oh yeah. Nope. She doesn't have the temperament or character for office. Be mad. Think horrible things (to yourself!) then collect yourself and rethink. Do not spew that on others/SM. 5 second search on Google tells me she's not a Democrat. No way.
