Yes, but a cyberattack could be launched against any and all sources of online information on Election Day, including this one. That was my point. It's the brave new world we live in.

There is no "magic wand" in the U.S. Constitution, let alone at the United Nations, for any U.S. President to do anything.

The idea that a strongman can solve everything is unfortunately an attractive idea throughout the right-wing of various democracies around the world, which is why so many authoritarians have been so successful electorally of late. Support for Trump feeds into this primal wish.

Trump plans sweeping undocumented immigrant roundups, detention camps, New York Times reports | Reuters
Former U.S. President Donald Trump, if re-elected in 2024, would expand his first-term immigration crackdown to include sweeping roundups of people who would be held in large camps to await deportation, the New York Times reported on Saturday.

Absolutely, if we want the same services, regulations, and laws that exist in CA, NY, IL, MA, HI, WA, OR, MI, MN, etc., then we need to prioritize downballot state and local races in our states.
Everyone wants to vote for a President who waves a magic wand. That's not how federalism works.

As someone who is on the left flank, I always have to remind my fellows that we only passed Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and the ACA because we had a Democratic President with once-in-a-generation supermajorities in both houses of Congress. There are no magic wands, only hard electoral work.

Blaming Democrats for Republican dysfunction is to be expected. I expect the corporate news media to make the story about Democrats not being "responsible" enough to save McCarthy rather than Republican disarray.

Double-standard by the corporate media. Republicans are allowed to be partisan, while Democrats are expected to be bi-partisan.

McCarthy tried to protect Trump after his attempted coup and after he stole top national security documents. He launched this bogus impeachment "inquiry" against President Biden. He breaks his word to everyone and a deal with him can't be trusted. I don't see the argument for saving him.

On the left here. You don't speak for "the left".
I will say this to anyone else on the left. If we want universal health care and other goals we cherish, then we need a progressive President with large progressive majorities in both houses of Congress.
Fascists destroy everything we hold dear.

Okay, I'll bite. I'm to President Biden's left, but think he's done amazing with the narrow Congressional majorities he had.
Accepting that he had at best 48 Senators (with Sinema and Manchin not supporting the most progressive parts of his agenda), what should he have done to "earn" your vote?

"Speaker" McCarthy could cut a deal with Democrats to keep the government open. Five breakaway Republicans in swing districts could work with Democrats to keep the government. Don't let ANY Republican off the hook because they won't stand up to the extremists in their own party.

This seems similar to 2022 when the corporate news media was using bad polling to hype a "big red wave" which never happened and missed the election that actually happened.
They are so intent on a Trump comeback that they are missing Democrats overperforming in special elections everywhere.
