The basketball lay in the grass beside the driveway, caught in fractured morning sunlight. I’ll have to pick that up, he thought, and put the car in reverse. In the back seat, his son already slept surrounded boxes of clothes and books and dorm room furnishings. The air was cool, the season shifted.
