true. America has become two nations fused together. but in the macro arc of history it seems to me the American experience is a constant struggle between Jefferson and Hamilton as to what it means to be "American."

America is generally pretty middle of the road, but we strive for a "more perfect Union." Hence, the progressive era of 100 years ago.

introverts get all the attention when it comes to their problems, while no one cares about extrovert problems.

I still contend that introverts secretly run the world.

let me be more specific: I want rock to be pop music. I want music that has a beat and you can dance to to be on the pop charts. so much of pop music is very, very bland.

indeed. all I want is a third Punk wave. we're overdue. but here we are, with AI on the cups of taking over the music industry. I would love a band in the tradition of the Dead Milkmen.

the very guardrails that I want, MAGA people hate because they want LLMs to be white Christian nationalists. Once everyone has a personalized LLM, they may very well get their wish, then things really go south

u have nothing to worry about. I'm not overcome with fear or anything. I just feel I'm being realistic. I like to make my abstract fears concrete. we can't just assume everything is going to work out with AI. We have to at least contemplate that we might actually be facing the worst case scenario.

fair point. my fear is that because of open source LLMs, even if they are cheap, they will have a significant bang for their buck to the point that the very thing I'm afraid of would still happen. but you're right. it's possible I'm being hysterical and nothing of note will happen

I understand your sentiment. and you're right. the issue is I'm shocked at how fast AI generated art is improving -- especially in regards to AI generated photography -- and it doesn't seem to alarmest to fear that sometime soon entire movies will be AI generated.

I'm not going to give up! far from it. but we have to be realistic and start to game out what happens when things we take for granted -- like only humans can generate high-quality art -- come into question

things are moving really fast with AI. the most shocking part of it all is AI advancing when it comes to things that though required a unique human touch to do properly -- the arts.

within 18 months, everything from music to movies may be completely AI generated.
