Most people who wear masks are doing so without thinking at all about the optics and politics. They simply know that it's smart. But, each time I don a mask, I personally enjoy thinking about how much both 45 and Biden absolutely hate seeing people with masks. #wearamask

This generation of parents is beyond bonkers. Before bringing snacks, they take great pains to consider the food allergies of other kids. Yet they do not hesitate to bring their coughing, feverish child to a crowded birthday party. #parentingadventures

Everyone in my neighborhood who has a baby or toddler has been getting sick recently. Lots and lots of wet coughs. These are adults who, at some point in the past 3 years, cared about masking, but then eventually stopped bc "covid is over" and family/work pressures came back. #wearamask

For anyone who believes that "droplet" diseases are only infectious within 6ft of a source, consider that every manual for every humidifier says to clean the machines. None say "don't bother cleaning, if you're at least 6ft away." #covidisairborne

Can't be mad at people who learned nothing from the past 3 years and don't mask. After all, look at the CDC's page for RSV. No mention of masks. Instead, "Cover your coughs and sneezes with a tissue or your shirt sleeve, not your hands." #wearamask https://www.cdc.gov/rsv/ab...

Only 3 people in the whole store were wearing masks (other than me)...2 clerks (who wore surgical masks under their noses), and one pharmacist who, thankfully, was wearing an N95 correctly. Meanwhile, a dude kept coughing directly into the face of a pharmacist not wearing any mask.

At the Walgreens, a woman comes up to the pharmacy window and gushes to the pharmacist how elated she is to be getting her flu shot bc "everyone around me is getting sick!" and guess what she was not wearing? No mask. Because of course she was not wearing a mask. #wearamask

Parents that say mean things b/c it's "preparing you for the real world"...they got it so mixed up. A stranger can say nasty things, but guess what, they're not expecting any Thanksgiving invitations, or any "I love you." Mean parents are just teaching their kids to treat them like strangers.

Former Gov. Phil Bryant, retired NFL player Brett Favre, Nancy New...all those folks involved in stealing millions from anti-poverty programs. You just know they are all "nice" people, civil, kind, good morals.
I tell you, the "Be Kind" signs fall short. The calls for "civility" always fall short.

Just watched Mandalorian: Season 1, episode 4. The dialogue and story were awful. But they could have made just a few changes to make the episode passable. Like, have the ex-Rebel trooper and the widow be the same person. She'd personify the conflict of stay-on-the-run vs. stay-hidden-and-safe.

If you have a friend who's disabled, keep wearing a mask. If you have a friend who's immunocompromised, keep wearing a mask. If you have a friend who's overweight, or has diabetes, or has asthma, keep wearing a mask.
If you don't have any friends like this, what's wrong with you? #WearAMask

I still think about Bryant in Mississippi, and how he and his friends spent millions and millions meant for anti-poverty programs. This does not happen by accident. Lots of people firmly believe that government should exist solely to support the wealthy and the capitalists.

I'm reading Parable of the Sower. It gives a lot to think about: one, how different people handle the fear of living on the edge of calamity, with no safety net. In Lauren's world, the government does not exist to help anyone except the wealthy. Everyone must decide how to live with death so close.

Thinking about how with Bush2 and Clinton, we had to hear an earful from Rs about the importance of leaders with good, Christian morals. Then with 45, sins like infidelity were now called "mulligans," and Christians called him holy b/c he could hold a Bible without spontaneously combusting.

In Parable of the Sower, only the wealthy have access to vaccines. This most certainly would have happened with the COVID vaccine had 45 been reelected. We know this, b/c we saw this happen in Bolsonaro's Brazil. Also, b/c the elite Rs got the shot, while telling their constituents not to.

Someday I'd like to start a webcomic; it's something I've wanted to do since the early 2000s, but I didn't have the courage then and I didn't know what to draw about. Now I know that I'd like it to be based on my childhood journal entries, and be snippet stories within a larger continuous story.

I always thought of Peter Pan as a story about a typical early-20th century white boy's fantasies, and a little girl who fails to fit in them until she becomes a damsel in distress and mother figure. The story is fine for what it is, but you can't update it with just a few cosmetic changes.

We are in a massive anti-vaccine movement. And what are people doing? Debating these folks?...who have nothing to lose when you engage them. When it comes to extremists, as soon as you engage them, you activate them. Instead of giving them so much attention, we need to improve ACCESS to vaccines:

I cannot forgive Biden for saying, in 2021, "For unvaccinated, we are looking at a winter of severe illness and death — if you’re unvaccinated — for themselves, their families, and the hospitals they’ll soon overwhelm." This was before children were eligible for vaccines.

The year 2020 was the opportunity to implement and sustain sweeping changes--universal healthcare, child tax credit, work-from-home, sick leave, abolition--that would have addressed disability justice, poverty, and climate justice at the same time. But no. What was the point of electing a D?

Why does the CDC have a "how to have sex with monkeypox" page, and not a "how to have sex" with COVID, flu, or measles page? It's to reinforce the *wrong* message that monkeypox is an STD, and to implicitly reassure folks that it's not a disease that children or straight people can catch.

Universal healthcare, equity in healthcare, and disability justice mean *everything*. How can I vote to reelect someone who took a page out of the Reagan era, to "look pretty and do as little as possible"? If voting D is just a backdoor way of getting R policies, what's the point?

It looks like the CDC recently updated its page about how to have sex while infected with monkeypox. They had an amazing graphic last year, with pictures of what to do. It was stunning, that the CDC had no useful advice about monkeypox, but they were so quick to create a "how to have sex" page.

I'm remembering the useless advice the CDC gave last year with monkeypox. Such as: if your pets have it, do not euthanize them. Yes, CDC, of course anyone who loves their pet will not want to do that. What are *you* doing to help pet owners? Nothing? Oh, okay then.

The government has learned from COVID (and monkeypox) how great scapegoating is (racial groups, entire non-European countries, asylum seekers, factory workers, LGBTQ, etc.) to avoid accountability. Minoritized groups will always be the scapegoat of the crises that the government can't handle.

As an older person, I have no regrets about parties I didn't attend, or adventures I didn't take. My regrets are about the people I pursued--family, churches, friendships--that were berating/abusive. A child cannot navigate this, and when I became an adult, I regrettably continued listening to them.
