It was not quite that pricey in its early days. I was only there once as a treat for my 10th birthday. It was quite the landmark and was impossible to ignore as you drove over the Missouri River bridge between St. Louis County and St. Charles County.

The story is a horrifying illustration of how far Republican sensibilities have fallen. Remember when folks were upset because Mitt Romney strapped the dog's kennel (and dog) to the top of the family car for a vacation? That's tame compared to shooting a dog because it would rather play than hunt.

Which is exactly why I didn't @ Christopher. But his lack of control over Google ads doesn't make the poor ad placement any less of a problem.

I put up with them as well, and they're mostly amusing. My attempts to get the gun ones to go away has failed. I've flagged those as inappropriate and as something I'm not interested in, but that doesn't seem to help. Everything seems to cycle back eventually (including the rats).

Ugh, I had those ads all day yesterday, and they were alternating with ads for conceal carry guns. Today it's nothing but ads for weird toe-less socks. Maybe they want me to use a cabbage leaf for a plaster when I shoot myself in the knee with my secret gun, then I'll rest up in my mutant socks.

I've been called 6 times-- 3 times in the county where I used to live, 2 times in this county (one was for a grand jury), and once for a federal jury. Never got picked for a jury, though. I once read they excuse math teachers and engineers because we're too logical, so maybe that's why I escaped.

They nest on top of a 4-story building at the campus where I teach. After the goslings hatch, the parent geese grab their kids and fling them off the side of the building. It was quite terrifying the first time we saw it happen.

Bobbins. Those are the ones I use with the Singer sewing machine I inherited from my mom. She bought the machine about 1950 when she taught sewing at a Singer store, and she taught me how to sew with that machine.

That's my generation, too. I've lived my life working multiple jobs at a time just to get by. Now I'm old enough to be on Medicare and still working multiple jobs. Last year I had 6 jobs with 5 different employers. I'm worn out mentally and physically but still pushing forward. It's quite a slog.

Believe me, I'm not looking for tax advice here. But it makes me wonder how often mistakes like this (whether unintentional or intentional) cause people to underpay taxes. Lord knows that tax avoidance is the sort of thing that the wealthy seem to be good at; we ordinary folk aren't so lucky.

I'm not convinced that there's any feedback that helps. I did that for the toe-less socks on creepy feet; they disappeared for a while but they're back again. The cycling theory seems more likely, unfortunately.

No, BUT... I screen my calls and don't answer the phone unless it's someone I want to talk to. If the caller ID has been correct (and not spoofed), then I know that I've had calls from polling firms, even as recently as 2 weeks ago. I choose not to give them my time or opinions.

My aunt was a very prim and proper woman who believed "butt" was a word that should never be said; she insisted her children say "bottom" instead. They would say "butt" just to get a rise out of her; it was hilarious.

The moral of this story is that swear words are in the ear of the beholder.👂️😲
