That's a good and insightful question. Made me think. My best guess is that whether there's an overt need to control based on religion or fear it boils down to wanting conformity. Conform to my ideals, values, behaviors, and expectations or you're outside the norm and need to be brought inside it.

100% AGREE. I always appreciate their insights and style. And I always go looking for Elie Mystal on SCOTUS decision days. His ability to blend intellect, anger, and nerdy references is perfect. Somehow I find that combination especially inspiring.

He has some choice lines in this article.

"I’ve had white folks whom I could standardize-test into a goddamn coma tell me that I got into school only because of affirmative action."

My fav: "...white people who have the intellectual firepower of a wet cigarette..."

This is a must read.

A horn was my first inclination. But that would be an incredibly short horn stub. It looks more like a tooth.

My favorite Italian seafood place in lower Manhattan, Aquae, is closed, I'm sorry to say. If you feel like venturing by car or train, I love Bahari in Astoria. Delicious Greek seafood. I also love Bati for Ethiopian food in Brooklyn. Short ride over from Lower Manhattan. You won't go wrong.

In Lower Manhattan with limited time, one place not to miss is Russ and Daughters. Katz Deli, too, though I'm a pescatarian, so I can't speak to that personally. Remember, too, that nothing is terribly far by train. I recommend Totto Ramen and Turkish Cuisine in Hell's Kitchen.

You made me laugh. Yes, cats trying to murder my feet (and Zoom meetings) for free. All without the claustrophobia and elite EXPERIENCE of diving to the wreck. I get some kind of panic response when I think of that kind of dive or see pics of people sky diving. No thanks.

I have ancestry that traces back to the literal Mayflower fleet. And ancestors who passed through Ellis Island. If we ended birthright citizenship, could we return the country to our Native neighbors? Might work out better for all of us.

I appreciate that they're focused tightly on winnable national races. I would like to other tools that focus in on more local elections / strategy. Even in "red" counties, I think we need to start organizing rural progressives to build up from the grassroots.

Agree. Cooking destroys peas and carrots. Mushy yuck. Picked carrots are awesome. My dog agrees about peas, btw. I tried mixing in cooked peas to his food from a cooking box. He picked them out one by one and spat them into a little pile on the floor.

I felt my stomach roll. That said, there was a great slaw that I used to make for my mom when she was undergoing cancer treatments. I know there was raw cabbage and broccoli but I think there was pineapple? and raisins? I don't remember what the binding sauce was. It was really good, though.

McCarthy had better back his compromise. He has to stand up even if it gets him vacated from the speakership. If the MAGAs tank it, we're going to be in deep poop.
