Women's History Month. We lost Janice Buress.

Janice Burgess (March 1, 1952 – March 4, 2024) was an American television executive, screenwriter and producer for Nickelodeon. She created the Nick Jr. series The Backyardigans and other shows on the network.

Such a fun show.

I am doing well, thank you. I have been testing the latest Spoutible Android build, and the white screen bug appears to be fixed. If all continues to go well, we will release it to the public tomorrow.

the flex they think it is. Men are using it to enact laws that strip away ALL women's autonomy. That choice to be a "trad wife" may not be a choice their daughters will have, but one forced upon them.

But they're not ready for that conversation.

Women weren't always pawns, but oftentimes skilled players in real life games of thrones. Women owned businesses and even led armies. There's one of my favorite heroines, Granuille ni Mhaile or Grace O'Malley, the Pirate Queen of the Irish. Of course we all know

White women do not know their own history, and a lot of them choose not to. Granted, textbooks are shitty when it comes to the contributions of women in history, but libraries are still a thing. Too many choose to weaponize a helplessness that is a relatively

Mayosapiens are angry that DA Fani Willis isn't their stereotyped Black woman on welfare with ten kids by ten baby daddies which is why they're attacking her for keeping cash around the house. Never mind that she was a judge, had her own private practice, and is now the DA.

This FL PhD, born in an orange grove barn, is defying DeSantis' black history/book banning and deserves a follow on the other site. Dr. Marvin Dunn has posted curricula for FL black history on his site.

There is a visceral outrage every Black woman watching this psychological rape felt today, will not forget. Just as we were Justice Jackson that day, today we are Fani Willis. We felt her anger, her frustration, her disgust, and also her disdain for all of her inquisitors.

I remember going to welfare office with my mom and watching her have to justify being poor to the white lady who would decide if we could have food stamps. Her sneering questions about why my mom had 3 kids, why she only had seasonal work, and why she didn’t sell her wedding ring

KC has an amazing football team for sure but if you’re going to be the “chosen one”, you should have to change your mascot and chant to something a little less offensive? I mean, Cleveland and Washington did it. #SuperBowl

I begin to gain weight, and binge eat, to take adult male attention away from my developing body. I was barely 11. I've struggled with my weight all of my life because of it. In that moment, food became my safety as well as my curse.

Yup. 💯 When I was growing up & we went to town wt males any age would yell jeers & racist sexist remarks. So I wondered if it was my clothes & decided to go to town in sack dress over jeans to totally hide my curves.
Didn't change a thing - they just racist sexist pervert predators.

Especially hypocritical because Jesus specifically told pervy old men who came to him asking about how a woman was dressed that they should rip their own dang eyes out if they couldn’t control themselves. Cherry-picking at its best. 🙄

When I was growing up I was called "fast" and chastised if I wore anything that brought attention to my developing body. Which was everything I wore.

What pisses me off to this day is no one called out the horny older men perving on me. In our society, young girls aren't protected from men.

(sigh)

America's Black hair history has me wanting to leave you with this final message during 2024 Black History Month:

Hair of any texture is to be celebrated, not hated. Our country's bias against Black hair must end once and for all. Share what you've learned with others. Leave Black hair alone.

One of the criticisms US Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown-Jackson faced before her nomination was about her natural and braided hairstyle. Americansof all races across the country came to her defense. Ms. Ketanji even stated publicly that she would not change her hairstyle for the job.

Given all this crazy American history of white control of Black hair, you'd think our country would give up the ghost and leave Black people's hair alone.

But no.

America's first Black First Lady felt the scorn of hair bias. Her hairstyle was often criticized when her husband became US prez.

The 2000s saw a shift in Black hair are away from chemical-based products to organic mixtures that treated Black hair w/the upmost of care. Black hair salons and barbershop owners began creating various Black hair care lines. Suspicions about Black hair relaxers health problems began to spread.

Affirmative action brought the next wave of Black hair scrutiny in the USA. As integration transformed the business world, Black hairstyles reverted to what was considered the beauty standard of white Americans. Well-coifed hair for Black men and women became a ticket to equal economic power.
