Until @Spoutible deals with the old-fashioned "he" universal pronoun on its site, I'm not coming back here. Come on. This hasn't been normal English usage for decades, and it transmits an entire universe of patriarchal attitudes. You expect women to stick around for this? Off to Bluesky or Mastodon

And for this observation I'm now being trolled by people who have "Never Bernie" in their bios. Which is a bit of an own goal, politically

Wow, not even on Twitter would I have had more trolls in response to this than other replies.
"Ok bye" is a clever response to my tweet? This is the problem here.

I'm expecting to be banned from this site in 3, 2, 1... And I was hopeful for it, too.

I've just had to block a 3rd unpleasant person, for a tweet that's less than 10 minutes old.

The response to my post here - and its tone is due to my having brought this issue up several times in the past using various different methods, to no avail, is unlike on other platforms.
While people replying are citing civility ("we don't talk like that here") they are being markedly uncivil.

I appreciate you pointing out the outdated pronoun choice. Sounds like the style guide is being updated accordingly.

Yet here you are, still, after making a 7 thread post about the fact that your tantrum didn't get immediate action.
FFS, grow the hell up. There are people dying, in physical pain, losing everything they have & you're here whining about something that has already been explained & will be fixed.

Submit it under the bug report. Provide your screenshot (or more, if you have other examples) and a suggestion (not a demand) about the correct wording. Don't be obnoxious, just factual in the report.

Thanks,, I just did that - factually. Virtually identical complaint as I made last time, quite a few months ago.

It appears that it’s being worked on. Bouzy spouted an update on this.

This website was built from the ground up to make a safer SM experience for Black folx, queer folx, women, etc. who are harassed on other sites. One gendered pronoun is not a bug that threatens site functionality, which is the main priority for Bouzy's small team. I'm sure it will be fixed in time.

Hope you're right. I had a real time exchange with Bouzy on here (or possibly Twitter) where I did bring this up with him directly, so I know he knows about it. There aren't that many landing pages on the site so it's just really weird

Agree this is language that needs changing. Hope Team Spoutible gets to it fast.

one word "transmits an entire universe of patriarchal attitudes"?
Seems out of proportion to me, especially considering the "universe" of actual users' comments and engagement here. "Patriarchal" doesn't describe it.
I think you're missing the forest for a twig that poked your eye

This reeks of drama for drama's sake, a childish temper tantrum where a simple question would have sufficed.
The site's copy and grammar are being worked on. I have zero doubt that the dev team will get it sorted.

I understand. Having worked in IT applications for years part of which included writing instructional messages, it’s not always easy to find the right words. In the example message, I could say “open the user’s profile page”. At the last place I worked, the HR managers opposed the word ‘user’. 🤷♀️

The thing is, using "his" to refer to all people hasn't been common usage in over 30 years. It's simply not used anymore. It's archaic and seeing it is really weird and jarring. No editor would allow it in media, any newspaper, any publishing house.. it's like a period piece.

A valid point, but why don't you stick around and help bring about change? It's not that hard to do here. @cbouzy will do the right thing.

It should not have happened in the first place. And I have stuck it out and pointed it out many times - and it's still there. I start to assume this is stubbornness rather than just not being aware. And there are other well known controversies re Spoutible's social conservatism.. it's not isolated.

Hi, Spoutible... Will someone please correct the pronoun usage on the Messages/Chat page???
[attached ("his")]
"Their" profile page should do the trick.
Thank you for your time and attention...

@cbouzy is very responsive to user feedback, and if framed the right way, given his track record, I’ll bet he responds favorably to an inclusivity request. Something like “can we get this ‘his’ changed to ‘their’ please?” I’m sure it’s an oversight.
