I was exposed to COVID today, and am utterly disgusted. Had a meeting. Chose not to mask, because I am an IDIOT. After we basically concluded, the person whose office it was told me one of her team had gone home - they had tested positive. The two of them had this conversation? In that office.

This Director KNOWS my risk aversion, AND my health risks, and she first apologized for not telling me - y'know, after I'd been hotboxing her colleague's cooties in a small and closed space for a long time. Then she protested about how she'd wiped everything down.

Unfortunately: I BREATHE.

I am outraged at the stupidity and the insensitivity, and just as disgusted by the person who tested positive. Like, you clearly were sick, I saw you this a.m. and spoke directly to you. You decided to come in? And - what? - THEN you tested?

No. You knew, and you fucking exposed us all.

I don't know which one of them horrifies me more, honestly. The sick one was at the office all day yesterday, too, sitting right next to a cube mate who was home sick today (gastro - but COVID has presented with gastro symptoms).

Plus: I was at the office all day. There's zero protocol for someone exposing the whole cube farm to DEFINITE COVID. My boss told me to go to HR and get a test. Well, 1) the tests at our office expired in May 2022. 2) if I was exposed an hour ago, I'm not going to test + yet, right?

Fortunately, I've already completed my 3 days in the office for the week, so it is not necessary for ME to expose anyone else. I will quarantine, I'll test, and I'll fucking stew.

#PerilousPenelope 's PT has cancer, so I won't take her for her final session tomorrow. Even masked as I am every time, and even knowing she *doesn't*, I just don't feel right about that. Maybe we reschedule, maybe we just call her done.

Right now, just need to get through a few days & a few tests.

So sorry; I hope that you somehow get away with it

Just hearing about that kind of blatant disregard for others' well-being is infurating

It should be an actual crime to knowingly expose others, at the very least, a crime for employers to not discourage people from coming in sick. ugh

Rest up

I’m so so sorry - it’s a personal betrayal and a general gut punch, on top of the medical risk they unreasonably and callously put you in.

It’s sad on top of the rage. I’m wishing you my best (of luck, of fortitude, that they learn something).

This is some reprehensible shit. Essential Oils?! What jackasses people are.

I'm still mad at myself for taking my mask off in the ship's casino. I didn't get COVID but after being super cautious for 3 freaking years, it only took 2 days of noncompliance to hack my lungs out for 2 weeks.

This right here is what pisses me off about the sick person coming to work. EVEN IF you didn't "think" it was COVID, or even if she actually had tested negative - she was SICK ffs, and everybody knows even "just a cold" is hitting harder since we haven't had 'em lately.

Totally awful!
I have to find the links but one thing being mentioned right now is to gargle with salt water as a way to decrease viral load after exposure. Also, nasal irrigation (distilled water) and the mouth rinses that have CPC (also need to find what that stands for again).

Diane - I’m sooo sorry. GAH. We have failed as a society. The dates on the Covid tests have been extended. It’s on the FDA website. And CVS (yes I know they suck) has a Minute Clinic where you bring your positive Covid test if choose to go the Paxlovid path. Again, I’m so sorry.

I looked these particular tests up several weeks ago, and yes their date was extended. By four months. Welp, four months past the expiration date on the tests at work was still over a year ago. I have new ones at home. Will use those.

THANK YOU for the (yep, they suck) CVS tip! I appreciate that.
