I am sincerely trying not to suspend over two dozen people.

It’s exhausting to have to jump in & be the parent-figure for adult sized toddlers and tweens. People who blame everyone else for their own bad behavior wear you down on the daily. Unlike children, however, they are less likely to learn because they are completely convinced of their “righteousness.”

If someone has been blocked then uses a back door to get to the blocker’s spouts to use them to harass, or use them at all, they have brought the consequences (from Spoutans or Spoutible) on themselves. There’s nothing okay or good-faith about doing that to people.

Note spouts from any non-private account are visible to the entire internet - you don't even need an account. It's how the site's designed, not so much a 'back door'.

Blocking really only stops accounts from directly interacting with (e.g. replying to) your spouts.

I don't envy your position.

Can't imagine how hard it must be to walk that line of remaining the firm-but-fair-CEO versus becoming the CEO-turned-babysitter. No matter what you do, there is no pleasing everyone.

Wishing you good luck and a clear mind to find a solution.

I kind of know a bit about what's going on because the trained investigator in me got curious. Found out that at least 1 of the posters I had already blocked mos ago. The few others just seem to be immature toddlers, so I stopped checking.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one who isn't seeing misbehavior in my timeline. When people are writing about vindictive pile-ons and the like, I start to wonder if I'm seeing it or misinterpreting it.

I suspect I got lucky very early on with my choices about who to block. It's a good tool, that.

DM them, inform of x# days suspension, state if continue, immediate and permanent suspension. TOS rules don't have to black and white, and you need to sleep well.

Many of us fled Twitter once you gave us the opportunity to come to your site. Spoutible is a safe haven for all who follow the rules, the rest just seem to want to try out your FAFO line in the sand.

Thank you Christopher for all you do for us.

Do what you've got to do. If people can't follow the rules that you have so clearly & carefully made sure we users understand, then it seems they require the harsher lesson. We can't all be 3rd graders. Most of us should be in at least college if not Spoutible adulthood by now. No bad actors.

I am a believer in following the rules. If there are individuals breaking them & they are told they are and continue, then you need to let them go. That will ensure that you are true to the values you set for this application which are right on. Rules to follow should never be optional.

It's weird, when you block someone you should feel confident that your choice not to see or interact with them, and for them not to see or interact with you is final. It should be against TOS to screenshot people who blocked you in a private browser and spout it, but here we are.

My understanding: No one on the Spoutible team is able to read user DMs; they can see that DM traffic exists (useful for spotting spammers), but not see the content. I seem to recall that @cbouzy was firm on that privacy policy.

You're right about being able to analyze everything else.

It sucks energy to have to make them though. I don't know what is going on or what the harassment is. One person took one of my posts that was meant to describe the missing info in the media, and quoted with a derogatory insult. I just ignored it, and it went away. Magic.
