Reading the callousness and bloodthirst of social media reactions to this entire calamity has been one of the darkest aspects of the entire crisis.

Again, with all due respect: that's not true. Footage of the aftermath of these strikes easily disprove that. There is no missile that magically only kills enemy combatants. Your anger at Hamas is justified. Your apathy towards innocent collateral damage is disheartening.

With all due respect, that's the same kind of semantic cuteness that helped Americans get behind the wholesale destruction of Iraq. Israel has a right to exist, defend itself, and retaliate - especially after this horror. But let's not pretend they have magic bombs that only kill Hamas fighters.

SCOTUS is limited to hearing cases that go through multiple levels of appeal. In practice, political actors in the US pick and choose where, when, and how to file suit so that their cases are guaranteed to be ruled on by SCOTUS. These student loan, AA, and LGBTQ cases are perfect examples.

The GOP is also notorious for bringing suit specifically with the intent of arriving before the Supreme Court. American political actors are well-versed in gaming the judicial system to provide the court with cases it wishes to hear - especially our modern Trump Supreme Court.

In an early SCOTUS case, Marbury v. Madison, the court gave itself authority to conduct judicial review and rule on the constitutionality of legislation and executive action. It's not anywhere in the constitution, though. It has no formal rules defining its scope or limits. They can just say 'no.'

1) I’m curious as to why ‘responsible gun owners’ are the group that need to be treated with kids gloves here and not, for example, shooting survivors or the families of those lost in shootings. I think it’s very telling that you’re more concerned about how gun owners feel than anybody else.

The 'over 100 shootings' statistic is defined by 4 or more people being shot. The FBI defines it as 4 or more killed. I see a split hair here and I'm asking you now why you're splitting it.
