I expect you two have inspired a new generation of historians - you have certainly shown the relevance of US history to the present. Many thanks for the show.

😢 Very sad news! If I was still teaching, I'd require my students to listen to many of your episodes--your title says it all--making yesterday's history relevant to now.

I hope there remains accessibility to your library of podcasts for future re-listening or catching ones I've missed. 🙏🏼

You said on today’s podcast that this isn’t your choice. Can you tell us why the podcast is ending?

I wish I could think of something on the spot! I love what you two usually come up with though, & love hearing Newbie chirping his opinions too.

We’re going to sing it again? First introduced to the music through Anais Mitchell performing it live on LFH, and followed different iterations along time before seeing it live. Still it was a treat, and indeed we have tickets to see it again even though I suspect the ending won’t change.

Loved that musical, even though i didn't know the music well when i saw it. And even though I know what's coming, it just crushes me in end because Orpheus' mistake a very human one. And I thought the way they ended i was wonderful, kind of brought you back from the brink.

So...with the new semester on the horizon and COVID lurking, a recommendation for masks.

After trying MANY kinds, the 3M Aura 9205 and 9010 are the best. They don't fog my glasses while teaching. The straps go under my hair and hold the mask tight.

So there you go.

People who are afraid of prosecuting a crime because “our opponents will be violent” need to realize that—in essence—they are being held hostage.

In tonight's Newbie the History Bird News:

Earlier today, my now Pretty-Brave History Bird saw me moving his favorite toy in his cage, & instead of shrieking & running away, he stuck his beak up against my hand & said: "booja booja booja?"

Pretty much Newbie talk for: what the heck are you doing?

Blossom, a goose who lives on a pond in a cemetery, tragically lost her mate Bud. The staff at the cemetery noticed she was lonely & posted a personal ad seeking another match for her. The ad worked, & Blossom met Frankie, another widowed goose. They hit it off and are now inseparable. #MadeMeSmile

@Jbf1755 I listened to this week's podcast about dolls. I never played with dolls, although I was given plenty including the bouffant Barbie and her Ken. They are still in good shape. I went to the Barbie movie today w/ my granddaughter. It is excellent. I hope you go see it. You will be impressed.

It's really become a tool I use--if they start in about something, I start looking behind them to see what they're projecting about. Works for Putin, too . . .

I hope you're right, but those folks are good at blaming their own shortcomings on 'the others." Before "woke", "PC" was the devil. I'm sure the crowd that follows TFG will find something new.

There's nothing like the experience of being in a live theater audience
Joanne Freeman @Jbf1755
I have to say...

Theater is magical.

You share an experience w/a bunch of strangers, & for a short while, you're somehow one.

Musical theater does the same--& adds the challenge & suspended reality of people bursting into song.

It lifts you up.

It's all magical.

I'm tired of people...mostly journalists!!!...not knowing how to count. For example, earlier today, someone made a big deal of how TFG has 30% of the vote, no matter what.

He has 30% of all Republicans, which are 30% of all voters. Not 30% of all.

So yeah, until they learn how to count...

It's about more than competition. Spoutible is the only Black owned social media platform and has made user participation and safety top priorities. They want to burn that down.
