I think you’re right that there are benefits to a siterunner maintaining a prerogative for discretion—but that requires users to place a lot of trust in the moderation team, and a defensive reaction to users asking questions (after being burned by other sites before) doesn’t tend to inspire trust.

The responses to the concerns about Spoutible’s content policy are evenly split between “OBVIOUSLY romance authors aren’t in violation, quit being hysterical” and “We don’t want smut-peddlers here, get your own app!” The policy is so vague even its defenders can’t agree on what it means.

Just a reminder that using medical/disability terms as slurs is ableism. (e.g. psychotic, ...etc) As well, disability-slurs are definitely ableism. There are plenty of non-slur ways to convey your idea. (e.g. instead of saying something is insane, use absurd or extremely, whatever fits the context.)
