Potentially true, but the data from this study does not say anything about that. All it shows is a growth in crashes over time (with huge errors bars). These are likely related to increased use, but they don't investigate that at all. Better to ask have accidents increased faster than usage.

Reading the study and its data it seems pretty clearly to be a hit piece on eBikes rather than impartial scholarly work. They use 2017 as their baseline year despite the minimum of the 95% CI being 0 then (implying they have evidence of 0 eBike injuries then and all of 2017 data is extrapolated).

I support both helmet and seatbelt use, but headlines like this mischaracterize the problem. The vast majority of serious injuries and deaths on bikes in the US come from cars/trucks hitting them. Helmets explicitly note that they're not designed to handle such impacts.

Looking at the numbers of this study it seems like what it's really showing is just increased eBike use. I wish they had included car involvement because other data I've seen implies it is why bikes have so many injuries in general.

I agree with this wholeheartedly. I just want people to realize that there is still a chance to hold off the authoritarians democratically. Some states are so R gerrymandered that it's very difficult to move them back to democracy, but it seems like it's slowly happening in WI, PA, etc.

Clarity that it is Republicans doing it was all that was missing. I think it's very important to include that.

Yes, though in many cases Rs have so gerrymandered local/state elections that Ds have little chance even if they win the majority of votes (see Wisconsin, PA Senate, etc.).

Not sure auto mechanic is a field with a bright future (maybe if focused on EVs, but they require so much less maintenance it's tough). Plumbing, HVAC and electrician work are all fields poised for massive growth in the coming decades though. We should definitely have more training options for them.

I think this clarity is important because some people claim that the answer to America's brokenness is to vote 3rd party. These claims allow Rs to gain more power and push us closer to a truly authoritarian state. That's why Rs often support leftist 3rd parties and fund them behind the scenes.

It's a huge issue, but it's also important to be clear that the 35% of Americans you reference are pretty much the exact same people as the 68% of Republicans (plus some who claim to be independent but vote R if they ever vote). The huge antidemocratic problem Americans face comes from Republicans.

Biden should quote Trump's rant in a speech so Rogan et al can think he said it and ramble about how anyone using such language should not be president, only to backpedal once informed that Biden's actually quoting Trump.

Lack of net metering is an issue for rooftop solar in a number of states, but it shouldn't affect larger scale installations. You rightly point out that the big issue with those is transmission (and its big brother interconnection). Have you read about HVDC greatly improving transmission efficiency?

Yep, happened to me and I've seen it happen to others too. I stick with Spoutible because of its anti-fascism stance, but the community has so much Twitter PTSD that they lash out at even the smallest suggestion of improvement of the app. It's definitely a cult like behavior and I hope it will fade.

Nah. There's no reason to inflict pain on kids just cause it happened to us. Give them a class where they spend 1-2 weeks learning how to sign their name (and write literally nothing else) and the rest of the time they learn touch typing (better yet teach them a Dvorak or Colemak layout).

Don't count on it. Leslie McCrae Dowless cheated for years. NC Repubs waffled on if he should be punished and helped delay his prison time till he died. Others in his scheme are being let off with no prison time because they were "doing it out of some affiliation or feeling loyalty to him" BS!

Another reason to transition off fossil fuels as quickly as possible. The vast majority of oil use in the US is for transportation. Every EV/eBike/eTrain/eBus that reduces gas car use lowers oils demand and thus defunds countries like Russia.

It was terrorist only in the sense that bad drivers regularly terrorize Americans, both those in and out of cars. Drivers like this man kill more people per month than died in the Twin Towers and seriously injure far more. We have the tech to stop people like this, but not yet the political will.

Here in Centre County the Democrat running for our Recorder of Deeds is currently down 127 votes. That could well flip once all mail and provisional ballots are cast. Whatever happens it's clear, every vote matters!

Gotta upgrade to a heat pump dryer. No combustion so it can't kill you like a gas one. Saves time and energy too.
