My daughter was a runner in high school and college. One time she went out for a run and came right back. She told there was a creepy ass truck following her. I rode my bike while she ran. This was in a small town in Indiana.

As folks discuss bear/man today, my youngest has texted me twice. Getting to campus, heading home. This is their safety net. I do the same. We track walking/biking routes, transit, send photos of uber drivers, know where, when, who - because it's not an if - but when. And I abhor it needs to be.

I have grams of bear encounters and never needed to go beyond step 1 in bear encounter response - backing away calmly and speaking. I can't say the same thing for men, men in daylight, in public spaces with lots of adult humans around, etc. So I am literally team bear.

TinaG @tinagI live in a region with one of the highest bear concentrations in Canada. I'm beside a wildlife corridor and have bear in my backyard frequently. I hike lots, so tons of encounters. This is a White Tern that was nesting in a tree at the Kapiolani College Farmers Market this morning. They don’t build nests. They just lay an egg on the branch of a tree and then sit on it. There was caution tape around the tree warning people. #birdnesting
