Due to gerrymandering, Missouri is a red state even though the cities, where about half the population live, vote blue.

I had polio as an infant during the year they were testing the vaccine on school age children. Fortunately, it was a mild case and my legs started working again after a few months. I was out of school for a month with measles. My classmates thought I had died. VACCINES PREVENT MORBIDITY & MORTALITY

Herman's Hermits was my cousin's favorite group when we were tweens. Once when I visited, I remember her singing this to the 45 which she played over and over.

At my first glance, I thought this was a baby crib with a mattress sheet of a swimming pool. I thought it was an odd idea for a baby! 😄

Did both today: attended a family day football game and read a novel on my phone when the game became ridiculously lopsided. Our team won.

Yes. I just finished The Deluge a couple of weeks ago. It's depressing because it is SO realistic.

I agree. However, I actually had a journal refuse an article of mine because it was too easy to read and understand. The editor evidently thought there must be something wrong with it because it was readable. Another journal did publish it and it was well-cited in the popular press.

My course began this week. One student hasn't been to class yet because she got Covid in Canada and was detained there. She will be back next week. I'm wearing a mask and trying to get all my students to wear one. No one is yet. Maybe next week.

That is very similar to what they tried a few years ago in KS where there was a large Latino population. https://www.usatoday.com/s...

I once got a job offer from a company that had paid me $20/hr in prior years to work for FREE! I said, who would do that? They clearly thought just having it as a resume building job would be enough. No thanks.

I agree. Agism is a serious problem. Elders have many more experiences and a lived history to draw on when making policies. Pelosi and Biden know how to work the levers of govt AND they know when and where to bring in younger leaders. Having an age cutoff is foolish.

Several years ago, The Guardian published an article about how terrible the maternal mortality rate was in England. The rate in the US was more than double that of England. It's probably gotten worse.
