“The petition… claims detention center employees have failed and refused to provide medical care or transport Harrell to scheduled medical appointments. She hasn’t seen an obstetrician-gynecologist since October”

Literally a response to someone who reviews books in the New York Times. That’s where we are with this policy.

It would be nice to be able to post links to a New York Times book review of a romance novel.

I’m sorry you feel this is a place to discuss issues related to your “work” that some of us who prefer to keep our phones and devices family friendly find unsafe. I’m a first waver who voted against porn on this site. My grandchildren often play with my phone. Nothing personal to you or anyone.

Peace out, y'all. I'm not on this platform anymore.
Christopher Bouzy @cbouzy
No, but @courtneymilan is more than welcome to start a social media platform and write the terms of service and policies however she likes. But the policy isn't changing, nor is it being rewritten. Spoutible will not please everyone, but thankfully there are other options for those who aren't happy.

I agree the current court is pretty illegitimate due to Federalist meddling, but it does indicate a knowledge of the law at a minimum, something potentially useful when developing TOS

She’s a best selling author, lawyer, and former clerk to the US Supreme Court. She is very well respected and if she’s taking the time to point something like this out, it’s worth listening to.

This was the official response to someone qualified pointing out that the Terms of Service lack clarity in ways that could potentially affect a lot of writers and artists, and offering to help make them clear. This is ridiculous.

Y’all please don’t tell people who are wondering whether this site is going to pull a Tumblr and make it impossible to talk about the thing they do for a living that they’re “just getting mad” because we “want to make controversy.”

No. We’re trying to figure out if we want to invest time here.

I was thinking the exact opposite: you have a group of people who've been navigating this specific issue for years saying the TOS leaves room for interpretation and abuse, and requesting a more specific boundary, getting blown off by the team who decided to build a website last year.

This post is reactive and short sighted. I cannot imagine staying. Genre fiction is my career. I cannot afford to spend time on a site that doesnt recognize the importance of Romance and other genre writers and readers. Check out the Amazon top 20, or the NYT best seller paperbacks.

You may not be able to please everyone, but you can and should take reasonable feedback without getting your hackles up. The TOS is unclear and poorly written. It needs a good edit before you end up in legal trouble.

I'm a bi woman who writes romance novels about queer people finding family, acceptance, & love after being rejected by their bio family like I was.

After seeing the ugliness directed at queer writers today, I've deleted all my spouts.

His "it's my way or the highway" attitude that puts me off more than anything. I'm not putting more energy into another social media site if I can be just thrown off by another man-boy tyrant (and a weirdly puritanical one at that)

This spout was deleted.

All I’m asking people to understand is that you can prohibit adult content with clear language where the answer to someone’s question of “can I post this?” is not “just post it and see if you end up getting banned!”

This is an extremely disheartening response. Updates to policies to provide better context are not a bad thing. #Romancelandia is an extremely popular corner of social media and you’re declaring outright that they cannot use Spoutible because you’re not willing to update a policy.

Yeah, shutting yourself off from reasonable criticism because it involves your new fave is definitely healthy and a good sign for the development this platform. /s
