Are you more of a “picked vegetable”
(ex. peppers, cucumbers) or a
“dug vegetable” (ex. potatoes, carrots) person?

Please elaborate in the comments, trying to settle something 🥒🍠🌶️🥬

Picked vegetables

Dug vegetables

This would be so much easier to answer if I read “picked” the first two times instead of “pickled.”

I like them both but root vegetables tend to be starchier so try to moderate how much I eat.

Picked veggies in the spring and summer, dug veggies in the fall and winter.

@beec4240 best comment ever!

Double John, the above is not sarcasm, I’ve never been happier about a comment. It’s a long story that is mostly silly., but thank you very much for this comment.

Tough decision because I love picked vegetables but the dug ones help elevate the picked veggies.

So with picked veggies I can always EVOO + salt + pepper - but add garlic 🧄 to the mix and it's magic 😁

I like them all but I lived picked veggies. So much variety and in the south you can grow practically any picked veggies.

Pickled carrots are pretty damned good, so I must abstain.

Picked because there's a much greater variety of vegetables in that category that I enjoy. Cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers, zucchini, eggplants, asparagus, brussel sprouts, fresh corn, green beans & all kinds of healthy lettuce & greens. In the ground it's onions, garlic, ginger, carrots & potatoes.

There needs to be an “all of the above” option for people who love both equally.

Also a “cucumbers and peppers are actually fruits” option for the pedantics.

I definitely prefer the fruity veggies over “true” veggies like broccoli (but don’t tell broccoli; I wouldn’t want to make it feel unloved).

PS - I’ve pickled: cucumbers, peppers, celery, onions, carrots, beets, zucchini, yellow squash, jicama and most any other vegetable that hasn’t run away.

If it’s loaded with butter, I’ll take a Russet baked potato any day! However, if it’s pickled, it’s coming to bed with me.

I have a preference for raw vegetables on a daily basis, which is why I went for picked, but I do love roasted potatoes or carrots now and then.

I selected picked because eating too much starch isn’t healthy. I’m gonna miss those sweet potatoes, carrots, fennel, onions, radishes, and garlic. Wait, now I wanna vote for both. 😊

I dig them... only veggies I have successfully grown are potatoes and onions. Everything else never seems to make it.

As with the poll, it was a tough choice. If i was the one growing them, I’d be a picker, since digging would be more work.

I do like both, but watching picked vegetable plants, grow, bloom, and "fruit" is satisfying in and of itself. Plus there's more variety from sweet to sour to hot.

I’m on meds where any dug vegetables have the potential to give me stomach cancer unless they’re organic or have enough vitamin C to counteract the soil toxins. I still eat them (with the above cautions) but picked are safer.
