This doesn't really shock me. I've long thought that a lot of the hostility to the internet/computers was rooted in knee-jerk fear of new technology, and while it can certainly be terribly abused, access to more means of communication and information is generally a good thing.

Consider reaching out to your local school to see if there are students with an overdue balance on their lunch account. Some students are not allowed to move on or graduate if there is a debt. That stress impacts their learning capacity. Random gestures of kindness can change a life.
