of cascades and small waterfalls in the boulder-strewn shallow waters. About two miles into this stretch I arrived at Rainbow Stream Lean-to, where I took my first real break of the day. I had eight miles under my belt and had climbed the second-to-the-last mountain on the Appalachian Trail.

It is morning beneath a clear, soft blue sky. We are crossing a wide, shallow stream with many partially submerged rocks. Upstream and the lefthand bank are mostly in the shadows, the sun is still rather low in the sky. The sun is hitting the nearby section of the stream and the forest on the righthand bank, a swath of white birch with blazing yellow foliage and maples in bright reds and oranges. Beyond that, a forest of stately old evergreens.

Today we're going back to Niagara Falls, Ontario. This rock is in the Niagara Glen Nature Reserve. Hundreds of thousands of years ago, the base of the falls was several miles from it's current position and you can see the destructive force of the water on the rocks left behind! I was here last fall.

Grew up near Niagra Falls, NY. Many trips there. Lots of partying there and Canada too. We could get into Canada no problem bc we were born in NY. (No passport needed back then. ) Very awesome site. Breathtaking.

Vrooman believed that due to growing anti-slavery sentiment, he would be forced to free Chloe. Rather than do that, he chose to sell her to an American across the Niagara River.

On March 14, 1793, he beat Chloe and tied her up. Then he threw her in a boat and rowed her across the river.

This has always been one of my favorites, especially since I worked for a while in Rochester, NY. Niagara Falls was often a weekend excursion. Even my grandtwins know not to mention Niagara Falls around me. 🤣
