There's talk bubbling about Michigan's governor, Gretchen Whitmer, running for president in 2028. I'm all for it. What do you think?

Well, I asked for people's thoughts, and that's what I got. Thanks for all the comments. I'm always trying to learn and grow.

I do love Whitmer (as a Michigander who has seen our state at the best it's ever been), but I see that my support for her detracted from the support Kamala Harris deserves.

I think all this anonymous ‘talk’ is a thinly disguised campaign to undermine the Biden-Harris ticket and the Democratic Party in general. It has clear racist undertones. Whitmer is fine, but she’s not better or more qualified than our sitting VP, just a whole lot whiter.

I have no problem with anyone running for the open nomination but once the votes are in, I do have a problem with people who won't support the nominee because their choice did not win

That would surely piss off millions of black voters. Just ignoring the fact that Kamala Harris is VICE-PRESIDENT. C'mon. This is what makes us question how progressives really see us.

I'd rather have #MVP Harris. Michigan still needs Whitmer

I think she would be great, but I’m sort of hoping for VP Harris.

Fine by me. Kamala would be a good choice, too.

Hard pass. MVP Kamala Harris all the way. Not even a discussion point and it's pathetic that anyone who calls themselves a Democrat thinks it is.

I remain absolutely disgusted by my demographic.

The POV I'm writing from is one of living in Michigan. Whitmer has turned things around here. I'd like to see her have a change on the national stage for the same.

It would be fine with me if she came after Harris or was Harris' VP.

It's not her time. She'd be an excellent candidate further off into the future. I love that we have talented folks like her. We need a deep bench of exceptional public servants that believe in democracy, and know how to govern. In addition, she won't attempt to run, and knows better not to.

Hailing from MI, I always keep an eye on my home state. Love what Gov. Whitmer has accomplished for MI along with Lt. Gov. Gilchrist, A.G. Nessel & S.o.S Benson. So much so that I'll say this for Gov. Whitmer... she'll be an outstanding V.P. choice for POTUS Harris in '28 & '32. Period.

2024's nomination is already decided.
I'm not overly excited, but of course I'll vote for an old white guy one more time.

No to Big Gretch (and I love her). VP Kamala Harris has been exceptional and would be my top vote for Presidential candidate after Pres Joe Biden is done with his 2nd term. One of the greatest recoveries of all time. Thanks I’ll stick with the ones that brought me to this dance.

I mean, it's not uncommon for a running mate to be pulled from the primary field. I'd love to see her campaign. Unlikely she'd get my vote in the primary though.

I'd believe that if the party was giving her a more visible roll. It's too bad that her talents are being wasted. Or if they aren't, it's not being communicated very well.

She's my number one choice as Kamala's running mate in '28.
And if she can show that she has Kamala's back the way Biden had Obama's back, then she will have unanimous support in '36.
