Right? I used to have to do website research as part of my last eCommerce job and my coworkers thought I was just playing around on the internet bc so many of the sites I'd visit would play music. CNN is no better if you don't already have video auto-play turned off.

Oh that bugs me too! Up there with playing music when the site loads. I will admit that for newsletter popups, sometimes it is a coding issue that can be hard to fix, especially for solo entrepreneurs who might not have that skill, but the full-size graphics and tiny X to close has to stop.

as anyone who wears a size 8 ring or above can tell you, it is rare to find rings in your size "off the rack" so to speak. My plea to jewelry stores, designers doing shows and anyone working DTC is to please widen the selection of your sample sizes - inclusivity is good for business. End🧵

Think of it this way - a size 6 ring can be tried on by anyone who wears a size 6 AND anyone who wears a size below a 6. That's not actually a very wide market sample. But a size 8? or a 9? Well now that can be tried on by an even wider audience. And you might even make the sale that day because🧵

VS and other clothing brands were self-selecting their numbers and saying "See! No one buys the larger sizes! It's not a strong market!" And jewelry designers do the same. If you go to a show and only have size 6, you are very likely missing out on a wider market 🧵

When in reality, you are influencing your own numbers by not offering other sample sizes. It's like when Victoria's Secret wouldn't offer larger cup sizes, or when *gestures at most of the fashion industry* clothing designers only offered a short range of sizes.🧵

Put another way, if someone wears a size 9 ring, but your samples are only a size 6, then you've left this potential consumer out of the shopping process because they can't even try it on. They skip buying a ring entirely and you think "The average ring size is a 6 because no one buys a size 9🧵

"Standard size" for rings is pretty meaningless. I might even argue that we don't truly know average ring sizes, because some designers' obsessions with having a sample size leave out many consumers. 🧵

Like, they drive up the prices, then your electronics get more expensive, jewelry gets more expensive, and designers turn to cheaper materials so quality gets worse and illicit and polluting gold mining goes up bc the mining process gets more lucrative. But cool story bro that yr money is safe.

Anyway, I have been shouting this with love for a while now, and I wrote this a few years ago when all of the Meta platforms went dark for hours and lots of creatives realized that they didn't have a backup.

I remember when Meta platforms were actually great and that you could leverage them for your business. And I am not saying "Don't use social media!" I'm saying that your business deserves to be multi-faceted so it can withstand any one of these platforms shitting the bed - a la the bird app 3/?

And I do say this with a lot of love! Because I do love some of these platforms. I love that it's a way for us to connect. And also, lots of these platforms control what your followers see (not Spoutible as far as I can tell) by inserting an algorithm between you and your audience. 2/?

I write a jewelry-maker and jewelry-consumer blog and I received blog pitches for:
-Dog rescues
-Landscape architecture
-Tiny homes
-ADUs
-Fences
-Plumbing
I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess that all of those sales lead folks who wrote the pitches had terrible conversion rates.

Becasue it is worth noting that there are lots of people who specifically do not benefit from it since higher gold prices are often tied to increases in dangerous and harmful forms of illicit gold mining and that helps no one.

I mean, tbf, there is a lot about digital design, UX/UI and systems from marketing/advertising to payment systems that had too many cooks in the kitchen and definitely not any input from the actual people who would need to use it, but some systems are worse than others and #Meta is one of them
