I asked the Spoutible community about adult content on this platform, and the users overwhelmingly said they didn't want it.
Susannah @KittenInACave
I'm not sure I want to stay. Spoutible touted itself as a true twitter replacement, a place we could all be safer.

Then it appears to have left sex workers, kinksters, and other groups at specific risk of harassment & abuse online, to fend for themselves on twitter.

Disappointingly judgemental!

Stop asking that question. Spoutible should have adult content so long as it’s not XXX (A friend told me XXX is awful)
But in a free country who is it that can be the decider for what is CRT, adult content, worthless African American history, DEI or inaugural poetry ?
Spoutible should not censor

I support Spoutible policy on this. Adult sexual content seems to attract predators and bullies to the site.

There needs to be a social media site specifically for adult content where they can address the unique requirements for safety and AGE restrictions necessitated by adult content.

I agree there are plenty of other options for adult content. Also who is going to decide what adult content is ok and which isn’t?

It’s still a no for me. If people want to leave a SM platform because there is no porn I think they might just have a problem. Leave. Go elsewhere.

I dunno. I’m not fussed about it, but I do think there’s a difference between adult content and porn. A good example would be kinky_horror on twit. However, that might be a hard line to walk.

Seems a bit chippy to demand you be allowed to share images from the work you do out in the world and then complain you're being judged when those images are NSFW.

I think it could work if people can block that content. Let them hid it the way we can hide Echos & Splashbacks.

Asking what people want is gonna get a different answer than asking what they want to ban.

Maybe a minority go looking for porn, but often a majority will refuse to suppress the freedom to engage with it.

Be honest with yourself -and with us- about what you're really asking.

The majority of the community made a choice that there would be no porn here and the owner of the website responded supportively. That doesn't mean sex workers can't promote themselves here; it means the content they share on site is limited.

What is your issue?

If there’s a way to block all the sexual/nudity content without having to see any of it, I can live with that. If I have to see the stuff on my timeline in order to block it, I’ll be closing my account as I was told that content wasn’t allowed on here & Im sick & tired of having it forced on me.

My question would be if adult content were allowed, how would Spoutible keep images of abuse or images shared without the consent of those in the image from being shared? Places that allow adult content end up rife with images of people who didn't want their image public.

I'm honestly going to have to agree with Kitten here. An outright ban on NSFW Content is wrong imo. Have tools in place so people who want to post that stuff can mark it appropriately & rules that enforce using them instead of not allowing it outright.

If people don't want to see it, have the tools in place so they can not have it show up in their feed instead of telling the people who post it that they're not welcome here & have to suck it up & be stuck on Elon's hell hole.

Probably been said: This could be solved by the following two steps: 1. Allow viewers to OPT IN to seeing adult content. 2. Allow content sharers to OPT IN to sending adult content. Once sharing is turned on make it permanent for that account, but allow viewing to be toggled. @cbouzy

This will help safeguard against accidently sending adult content to the masses who did not opt in. Keeping both options off by default will also ensure folks are required to consent to the content, rather than to be presented adult content from the start.

I think we should allow it.

You can create something for people to tag their posts NSFW and allow us users to opt in to seeing it.

The opposite of what we do with muting people.

There has to be a way to include it. This is supposed to be a safe place for everyone. Not just a chosen few. Do we want Nazis or bots or harassment? Heck no. Legitimate sex workers don't fall into any of those categories though.

@cbouzy I would be happy with a blur option or a block adult content option. I deserve to choose when and how I view adult content. However, sex work is work and they need a safe place that isn't the bird app.

Strong disagree. I don’t have any interest in it. But I DO want it. I just won’t follow accounts that don’t interest me, same as on the bird. But sex work IS work and valid and deserves a place here. Please reevaluate this policy. It’s wrong.

Is there any particular reason why sex workers cannot participate in a conversation app without porn? That’s one of the many reasons I want off the bird. The most innocuous hashtags are just saturated with it. I have no beef with adult conversation but no porn please.

It should definitely be filtered away by default and opt-in to view for that exact reason.

Sex workers could use this as a conversation platform, yes. But maintaining a social media account is hard work and one here would be much harder to use for their work.

From what I gather, sex workers have a hard enough life already. You could add an option that blocks adult content by default or ban anyone who fails to properly label their content as adult.

I don't see any overwheming majority here of anything except giving a blur option. Even Twitter has that, so I'm sure you can do better without consigning an entire group of people to a slow, harrassed cyberdeath on Twitter.

How is #adult content defined? A person in a Speedo? A person in a bikini? A person in underwear? Two shirtless people hugging? Drag Queens? Pics from a LGBTQ Pride parade? I’ve been around the block a few times and I’m willing to bet “adult content” complaints will be higher against LGBTQ people.

Nothing is more annoying than scrolling your feed and unexpectedly see unsolicited d*** or cooch pics in your face. If the demand for it is there then I recommend putting it behind a paywall so those who aren't interested don’t inadvertently get an eye full.

You could call the paywall "Sperm"
