I like Michael Popok very much, but I’m not convinced. Michael is excellent at that site, but there’s a lot of kool aid drinking there when it’s not Michael.

Although conviction and even incarceration would not stop him from being president. I do not thing the Republican nominee will win the general in any case - at least not as I see things now, but there will be much change in the next year and a half.

A very uphill climb and if it’s not successful it makes the rest of the case vastly more difficult. We shall see.

Agreed. I get the impetus to push back no matter what - and we should. But… among humans of good will, we can critique and improve ourselves, and to your point transparency is crucial. I’m not saying we need perfect people, but where there is outright incompetence… we say so.

Thanks! Of his theories, the Grossberg one strikes me as the strongest contender. She apparently recorded tons of incriminating stuff (some 90 separate files). If he’s gone before that ever goes anywhere, it puts Fox in a better position.

Certainly possible. I get the sense that there had been some tensions there for a while - could very well be your scenario. He’d become more liability than a benefit and they wanted to show they weren’t afraid to go after the biggest star.

I have no issue with fun, and I get the joy in dunking on him - clearly a blast, but… rocket prototypes blow up. So, dunk with aplomb, but in fairness (and I can’t stand Elon) this is par for the course in rocket engineering. It’s not reflective of him or even that much on SpaceX.

Fox was on the ropes - seriously in trouble. And Dominion took the sure cash. They would have made it through the trial just fine financially. They were not willing to take the chance - I understand the reasoning, but the only you get Fox is by going all in, all the way. That didn’t happen.

I agree - a completely fair point. And yes, it’s up to us, but since we’re not doing a great job of demanding better media… I was hoping that more would be extracted from Fox (and not financially).

Great point - it’s easy to oversimplify, BUT… it would seem… reasonable, that no matter how difficult or distasteful, for the sake of the institution (and the country), you have to do… something.

I don’t think anyone really has a sense of what Roberts is about, but strength or actually doing something is rarely part of his makeup - he always seems to find a way… to not do something. He can’t bring himself… to do much of anything. It’s not wise deliberation, it’s sitting on your hands.

How can people who are automatically lauded as heroes… do anything wrong??? This is why all of that propaganda is dangerous. A large part of the public… is brainwashed.

It’s a classic Murdoch play, frankly. For the sake of the public good, I hope it’s full speed ahead. I can’t imagine Dominion will get more by settling than by winning the case, so… I hope they win this case for themselves and for the sake of the culture at large.

If the right were making good faith arguments and presented any “reasonable view” compromise would be possible. In our current situation we’re dealing with fascism which preys on people attempting to move the center and appeasement. Elie Wiesel got it right.

Well, the right is depending on that and the wrongful expectation that they’ll ever do the ethically correct thing. The conclusion shouldn’t be chuck ethics, it should be to compel the right, or remove them via the ballot box, so ethics is more faithfully established.

He became a hero to be at 12 basically… and has remained one because he got so many things right. Some ideas and insights don’t age well, but Sagan’s track record has been extraordinary. Can you imagine what he was like in a classroom??? Must have been incredible.

I don’t think the left should take ethical lessons from the GOP. She has been having a very hard time for years now. Dems wouldn’t be losing the seat and her not being there makes it impossible to confirm judges. Our high sounding words don’t mean much unless we live up to them.

Spot on! It’s THE main reason that this kind of social media can be a kickstarter but nothing more. Our discourse - outside of here and places like it - needs to improve vastly. Free speech absolutists have poisoned the well, but we need to talk about difficult stuff in an atmosphere of good faith.
