No words of wisdom, just hugs (if accepted). Some people simply do not deserve your time, attention, bandwidth, or love, even if you share DNA.

I went no contact with my father a few years before he died. 21 years after his death, I still don't regret a thing.

I am so glad they are safe, so glad they had the ability to fight back, but so enraged that YET AGAIN we have proof that women are never really safe anywhere that men are.

My PlantNet app identifies it as 'euonymus Americanus' or 'bursting heart plant," a wild shrub.

Of all the things I don't miss about working as a server, working Mother's Day is probably #2 . (#1 is not working the after-church shift.)

That's exactly what my grandma said, although she also included eating a little dirt (because they would anyway). 🤣

And in winter, fresh air would be more necessary when you consider homes were heated with wood or coal. Even now, homes are closed up so tight, there's no real air exchange.

I did the same with mine, at least 20 minutes a day from the time they were born, bundled up tight in cold weather. Just enough to get some red in their cheeks.

My grandma and mom were big proponents of the fresh air thing. From newborn on, babies were dressed appropriately to spend time outdoors, either in a pram or (once walking) tethered outside to the laundry line.

It's pretty common in Scandinavian countries and places like MN/ND.

This is fantastic!

I can already see using screen shots of accuracy alerts on these sorts of photos misinfo to counteract their spread on other social media.

Maybe I'll try that! Like I said, I want to like them because I could get more done if I could "read" and do housework or whatever at the same time, but so far, no go.

It's weird, because when I'm writing, I read it aloud at "normal" pace because I want readers to feel the pacing and cadence.

I think it's one of my ADHD quirks. I read very fast, so when someone else is reading to me or narrating, it feels too slow. I just want to take the book (or news article or whatever) and read it to myself.

I would get your hearing checked just in case. I have 60% hearing loss in my left ear and 40% in the right and this does affect how/where my brain interprets sound coming from, especially in noisy environments.

I have no idea, but I hate it.

I think there's also something in the layout and materials used in a lot of places that seem to amplify sound rather than absorbing it. To my ears, it felt like the noise was bouncing off the walls and ceiling like waves on a pond, coming from everywhere at once.

I *loathe* AI reading. I can't even handle real people narrating (I want to like audio books so badly, but I don't like being read to), but the AI or text to speech is so flat and monotone, with pauses in all the wrong places or mispronunciations because it doesn't recognize acronyms, etc.

Honestly, Medicaid for all would be the better solution. Rather than have to rewrite and change/eliminate all the Parts, Advantage, etc, Medicaid can simply be expanded, mostly as is, to cover everyone.

Not crazy or old-fashioned! I write (not novels or anything) and I love finding just the right word, the right phrase, the right cadence. The way the words and sentences and paras come together, the sound when you read them aloud that takes dry academic writing and makes it into a narrative.

Medicare For All is a catchy slogan for people who have never had to deal with Medicare and figure out what Parts A-D are and which one(s) you need and what's in network, out of network, Medicare Advantage and all the other bullshit.

My mom and I have 5 degrees between us and it was a nightmare.

Exactly right. AI is a tool, but only as good as those who program/operate it. Evil people will use tools for evil ends, good people will use them to good ends. But that (to me) also means regulating those tools to limit potential harm.

Absolutely agree with you on the replacement of creatives by AI. I can see areas where it can open a new door to creativity (I have an AI avatar that I adore), but AI cannot imagine on its own. Everything produced by AI is limited by its need for human input and simultaneous lack of human emotion.

My pulmonary nurse mom's "favorite" appreciation events were the cookie platters or, when she was on overnights/12s, the cafeteria luncheon that only evenings and admin were free to attend.
