I still have backyard roses Bob planted several decades ago. The heartiest have survived my thorough neglect.

Everything in my yard is perennial: hostas that a friend planted for us, tulips from Holland, an iris transplanted from another friend, day lilies Bob got from a roadside, & one peony.

The end result: pasta with garlic/oregano sautéed at low heat in olive oil (with salt & a little butter), with tomato & steamed (for 2 minutes, 3 tops!) asparagus. Melissa put a load of parmesan on hers.

I mentioned we won't have fresh garlic till early August. Here's one of the (2) garlic beds now. What's cool is that we grow enough to replant for next year; do the same now with potatoes and kidney beans. Should really start saving seeds from peas & green beens too...

Today in the museum I really liked this huge yellow abstract by Larry Poons, which felt to me like it had a musical rhythm. I discovered that Poons WAS a musician, in an art band that included Jasper Johns & Andy Warhol.

A1: Lily-of-the-Valley, both plant& cut, for the amazing scent & the delicate white flowers. My birthday is in May & it's the May flower, so there's a long history. My late husband planted them for me wherever we moved. I miss having a garden now where they'll thrive.

Love them. Years ago, a friend made a custom version of the LOTR map for my birthday with many references to our favorite places, our dogs, etc. I treasure it.
Lord of the Rings map with custom changes to reflect things in my life and world.
