Maybe in the future the summary can denote if the thread is fiction or an obituary (?) to help avoid spoilers (?! still confused by the obituary designation), though as someone pointed out, the author can warn of spoilers at the top of the spout.

I commented on this previously several days ago. I still think you should give the author of the thread the ability to turn off a summary of their thread.

Agree, the AI doesn't get spoilers aren't part of the summary. In general, I just don't want art taken out of the hands of humans period, ever. And AI doing summaries does that, IMHO. Why does this society work so hard to take the human out of everything?

Thank you.
Exactly, and writers, as you know, put a lot into what they write.
Why read a thread if you can get the gist from the summary?

Thank you so much, Myles. I value your opinion. :) Oh Cuddles dear Jake.

The hitch is that people are likely to have read the summary, got the spoilers etc, before seeing the first spout. The summary is being given the first position. If it were after the first spout, what you suggest would probably work well.

I’ve not been writing much lately other than commenting etc but this new AI thing doesn’t really make want to share in threads here. I’m more likely to write in my blog and share that link. I will still use threads for answers that need more than 300 characters.

Once again, it is a summary that is literally located on the unaltered thread. The user has immediate access to the thread and can determine whether the summary is accurate or not. Some are acting like AI is rewriting their thread. Users can ignore the summary and read the unaltered thread.
John Frost @johnfrost
Obituaries, mysteries, stories with a funny ending, etc. This stance of yours that all those creative works should be summarized, sometimes with hallucinations or inaccuracies, by an AI is not friendly to the author or their intent. Why are you saying no to a fix?

We understand some user's frustration, but we will not have an on/off toggle for summaries. We will improve the feature, and the accuracy will get better over time, but it will not be an opt-out feature. If you choose not to spout threads because of the summaries, that is your decision.

Yes, I've been encouraging the chronically ill over on X to come over to Spoutible. Many write long threads of their experiences, particularly about being gaslighted. I doubt people would want to share over here if they knew their experiences were being boiled down to an AI generated summary.

Authors can also write their threads clearer. Like the Bot Sentinel ratings, some features users will have to live with. Every feature isn't debatable, and this is one of them.

Optional for the reader, yes.
Optional for the author, no.

And if what you wrote is misrepresented, I can understand being upset.

Try the new AI thread summary feature. It’s interesting and adds value. I’d say turn it off for any threads that are obituaries but other than that it seems cool.

Try it on the below thread.

Thinking about my mom, Floy Dean today on her birthday. She would be 78, twice as old as she lived. She died of colon cancer at age 39. At diagnostic she was told she had a year but she lived 18 months.

Those last 6 months were filled with almost daily hospital trips, and pain.

Sorry, no. But, like with every feature, it will be improved over time.

For the creatives like @beec4240 is there a possibility later down the road of offering a “turn off summary button” like we can turn off splashbacks but offered within the created thread itself? I know zero coding so just ??
